To be precise, I'm interested in a few things about what Lautrec is doing in Anor Londo, how he got there, and who he's with. I don't want to kiss him or anything.
In case you don't know, if you don't deal with (by which I mean brutally murder, of course) Lautrec before ringing both bells, he stabs Anastasia of Firelink right up then pisses off with her soul (thus extinguishing the bonfire) like the giant golden bellend that he is.
You'll find him in Anor Londo, just before you go to get turned into fine paste by Ornstein and Smough over and over and over and over again for hours - but there are an awful lot of questions that need answering about that.
For instance:
- You use a cracked eye orb to visit Lautrec's world - but he exists in the same world as you. You reach his world as a phantom, but the pair of you have already met, spoken and otherwise interacted in the world in which your character lives. Why is this?
- Did Lautrec get through Sen's Fortress in order to reach Anor Londo? I mean, from what I know of the place it's only separated from the rest of Lordran physically - there's no magical barrier or other special thing stopping you from getting there - and defeating the Iron Golem is simply the final challenge for the chosen undead, who is picked up by the Harpies, but if he didn't do that, how the fuck did he get there?
- Leading on from this; is Lautrec responsible for the smashed window in that room? VaatiVidya (a brilliant Youtube Loremaster who you should all listen to before you listen to me) suggests that Tarkus was responsible for smashing the window in the Painting Room, so that suggests that Lautrec was responsible for the other little bit of vandalism Anor Londo has suffered (other than the bodies that must litter the grond beneath those shitting Archers)
- Lautrec is accompanied by two spirits; one of whom appears to be one of the Sealers of New Londo. Why?
- Why do Lautrec and his cronies all have fall control active?
- What does Lautrec want in Anor Londo? Where he is suggests he's interested in either Ornstein and Smough, Gwynevere or the Lordvessel, but what would he want with any/all of these?
Now normally I'd be prepared to write a lot of this off as games being games, but this a fairly large plot point in the game, and the game we're discussing is Dark Souls, which is a game that warrants discussion - which is what I'm going to do - in a future post. This one's already long enough.
So, y'know. Wait for that.
